TikToker Claims Kim Kardashian's SKIMS Shapewear Saved Her Life After Being Shot

A 22-year-old woman who was shot four times earlier this year is crediting Kim Kardashian's SKIMS shapewear with saving her life.

Angelina Wiley was waiting for food at a food truck in Kansas City, Missouri, on New Year's Eve when she was shot. She suffered a ruptured bladder and cracked pelvis, but she survived.

Wiley says that she was wearing the $68 SKIMS seamless sculpt thong bodysuit at the time of the shooting. She believes that the bodysuit helped to slow the bleeding from her wounds and prevent her from bleeding out.

"It was so tight on me that it literally kept me from bleeding out," Wiley said in a TikTok video. "I recommend it. I'm definitely gonna buy some more. I mean, I should wear it every day. It's like body armor for women."

Dr. Richard Doyle, an emergency medicine physician with Northwestern Medical Group and instructor of emergency medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, told Forbes that it is "feasible" that the bodysuit could have helped to slow the bleeding.

"Initial management of gunshot wounds includes control of bleeding, so 'direct pressure to the wound or tourniquet proximal to wound is ideal,'" Doyle said. "It is feasible that the bodysuit provided some compression that could have slowed bleeding and allowed more time for Wiley to be transferred to treatment."

Kardashian shared Wiley's TikTok video on her own Instagram story with the caption "wowww" and the praying hands emoji.

Wiley's story has gone viral, with over 1.4 million views on TikTok. She has also started a GoFundMe page to help with her medical expenses.

This is not the first time that shapewear has been credited with saving a life. In 2018, a woman in the UK survived a car crash after her shapewear held her in place and prevented her from being ejected from the vehicle.

While it is unclear whether shapewear can actually prevent someone from bleeding out, Wiley's story is a reminder that even everyday items can sometimes have lifesaving properties.
