Gigi Hadid Arrested for Marijuana Possession While on Vacation in the Cayman Islands
According to recent reports, Gigi Hadid, a well-known model, was arrested for marijuana possession while vacationing on the Cayman Islands. It is said that officials searched their luggage and discovered "ganja and utensils used for the consumption of ganja" in their possession after Hadid and a friend arrived in the Cayman Islands via private plane. As a result, the supermodel and her friend were arrested on "suspicion of Importation of Ganja and Importation of Utensils used for the consumption of ganja" and taken to the Prisoner Detention Center, where they were later released on bail.
During a court appearance on July 12, Hadid and her friend pleaded guilty and were fined $1,000. However, they are not facing any additional charges. According to her representative, "Gigi was traveling with marijuana purchased legally in NYC with a medical license. It has also been legal for medical use in Grand Cayman since 2017. Her record remains clear and she enjoyed the rest of her time on the island."
Marijuana laws vary widely by country, and in some places, it is still illegal to possess, use, or distribute the drug. In the United States, several states have legalized marijuana for recreational and/or medical use, including New York, where Hadid allegedly purchased the drug legally. In the Cayman Islands, possession of ganja has been decriminalized since 2017, but it is still illegal to import or export the drug.
