Kanye West WONT STOP, Takes A Stance Against The Music Industry & Uploads Video Of Himself Peeing On An Award

Over the past several days, Kanye West has been vocal on demanding change in the music industry. Today, he kicks it up a notch with a symbolic display uploading a video of himself peeing on a GRAMMY award.

Kanye has been awarded 21 GRAMMY awards over his fruitful career as a musician and entertainer. Utilizing one of his awards, he illustrates his perspective on the industry with the caption “Trust me … I WONT STOP.”

Alongside the tweet, the Atlanta artist shared a video shot from a top-down point of view angle showing a man in Yeezy Foam Runners urinating on one of Ye’s GRAMMY awards sitting in the toilet.

Kanye has been advocating for change both in his own contractual obligations and those of other artists. In a series of tweets, he expressed the importance of artists owning their masters, especially during the current pandemic. He talks about how all record deals are based on royalties and how they are a trap to ensure that artists never recoup embedded with various hidden fees to generate labels more money off of an artist’s hard work without doing anything additional.

The urgency to create change comes during these heavy and unfortunate COVID-19 pandemic. Artists, especially performers, have been heavily impacted by not being able to make any revenue touring or hosting events while labels are profiting off of the majority of artists revenue from album sales and streams.

A large proportion of an artist’s income comes from having business’s besides making music. Historically, artists have been lured into contracts that do not favor them; with their masters owned by labels, and heavy restrictions of what and when they could release music.

Kanye has taken an initiative to start the conversation with label owners, and those who technically hold the “power” to change the narrative of the industry. In a tweet, he mentions “Ima go get our masters … for all artist … pray for me.”

Additionally, Kanye has shared all 10 contracts he had with Universal page by page on his twitter feed urging every lawyers in the world to take a look and review what he calls “modern day slavery.”
