2020 BET Awards Snubs Baby Pluto

The BET Awards nominations have been a controversial matter annually and the validity and legitimacy of their nominations have been consistently questioned. This time around, they have ticked a nerve with Lil Uzi Vert and his enormous fanbase.

After the release of the nominations, the Philadelphia rapper immediately took to twitter to express his dismay and confusion about the results.

Y’all see how they do ya boy 🤷🏾‍♂️

He quickly concluded that it may be because he didn’t follow the typical rules of hiphop.

The BET awards nominees for “Best Male Artist” included: Future, Lil Baby, Roddy Ricch, DaBaby, Drake, and Travis Scott, while the nominees for “Album of the Year” included: Cuz I Love You by Lizzo, Fever by Megan Thee Stallion, Homecoming: The Live Album by Beyoncé, I Used To Know Her by H.E.R., KIRK by DaBaby, and Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial by Roddy Ricch.

Many hiphop and rap enthusiast have expressed their confusion as to why Travis Scott was included the list considering his last release was back in 2018. Some even questioned why NBA Youngboy had no nominations as well. But plenty have agreed that Uzi was robbed.

Lil Uzi Vert and his fan’s anger is completely justified seeing that he had one of the best albums of the year, with the charts and sales numbers to prove it, yet did not receive a single nomination is any category.

The rapper’s latest project, Eternal Atake, was one of the most highly anticipated albums of the year. After announcing the completion of his album during his set at the 2018 Rolling Loud Los Angeles music festival, it took him 223 days before releasing the project to the public.

The project dominated the Billboard 100 charts. Every single track from both the original release and deluxe version of Eternal Atake made it onto the Billboard 100 charts. It was also one of the highest selling albums of the year.

The question remains and resurfaces again this year, who controls the BET nominations and to what extent is it rigged?

Nevertheless, Lil Uzi Vert had won in the streets and has captured the hearts of many regardless of whether or not his success was recognized by the BET Awards.
