Zuckerberg Clears Up UFC 300, Tosses Chael Sonnen’s “Shoot” Out The Window
In recent days, social media has been abuzz with rumors of a potential fight between Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and Twitter CEO Elon Musk. The rumors escalated after retired UFC fighter Chael Sonnen claimed on The MMA Hour that Zuckerberg had contacted him personally and said he had agreed to fight Musk at UFC 300.
“Zuckerberg contacts me because he saw your tweet that I'm coming on … Zuckerberg has told me that he has agreed to fight Elon Musk at UFC 300 and it was a very big deal.”
Sonnen went so far as to say, "This is a shoot," indicating that he believed the fight was a done deal.
“That just happened. [My producer] Ethan is my witness, my son, Thero, my dog, Duke.”
However, a spokesperson for Zuckerberg quickly denied the claim, telling TMZ Sports that the CEO had not contacted Sonnen.
“I have confirmed with Mark that he did not call Chael Sonnen.”
Despite the denial, the talk of a potential fight between two of the biggest names in tech has continued to gain momentum. UFC president Dana White has even weighed in, saying that he believes Zuckerberg and Musk are serious about fighting each other and that he's working to put the fight together. White went on to say that a fight between the two would be "the biggest fight in the history of the world."
While it's unclear whether the fight will actually happen, White has indicated that he's taking the idea seriously. UFC 300 isn't set to take place until the spring of 2024, so there's still plenty of time for negotiations to take place.
Regardless of whether the fight actually happens, the buzz around it underscores the growing interest in combat sports, particularly in the world of tech. With the rise of social media and streaming platforms, combat sports have become more accessible to fans around the world, and events like UFC 300 are likely to draw massive audiences.
In the end, only time will tell whether Zuckerberg and Musk step into the octagon to settle their differences. But for now, the rumors and speculation continue to fuel excitement among fans of combat sports and tech alike.
