Snoop Dogg Cancels Hollywood Bowl Shows in Support of Writers and Actors Strikes
Rapper and hip-hop icon Snoop Dogg has called off two upcoming concerts at the iconic Hollywood Bowl amphitheater in Los Angeles to stand in solidarity with striking writers and actors.
In an Instagram post on July 25, Snoop officially announced the cancellations, writing "We regret to inform you that due to the ongoing strike and the uncertainty when this will be over, we need to cancel the Hollywood Bowl show."
The two scrapped October shows were set to feature rap legend Dr. Dre on the bill, but were rescheduled from June to the fall in hopes that the labor strikes by the Writers Guild of America andScreen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists would be resolved. However, based on Snoop's cancellation announcement, that now seems unlikely.
Snoop said "We stand in solidarity with all of our brothers and sisters in the WGA and SAG-AFTRA during this difficult time and remain hopeful that the AMPTP will come back to the negotiating table with a REAL proposal and we can all get back to work." The initials AMPTP refer to the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers which represents major Hollywood studios in labor negotiations.
Fans showed appreciation for Snoop's decision, with one commenting "Much love and respect to Uncle Snoop. You're a cultural powerhouse and your support means a LOT." Another remarked "After we are done supporting the strikes, we should put this much dedication towards helping homeless and low-income people."
Snoop Dogg has built an extensive acting resume over the years with roles in films like Training Day, Starsky & Hutch, BMF, Baby Boy, The Addams Family 2, Meet The Blacks and more.
Despite canceling his two Hollywood Bowl performances, Snoop Dogg fans can still catch him live this summer as he continues touring North America with hip hop star Wiz Khalifa on their joint "High School Reunion Tour." The duo will perform concert dates across Canada, Massachusetts, Connecticut and New Jersey throughout July.
With over 30 years in the music industry, Snoop Dogg's decision to stand with striking actors and writers is emblematic of his status as an industry heavyweight who wields significant influence. His move also speaks to the solidarity and common cause that exists between musicians, actors and writers across the entertainment industry.
