David Verde On Getting Co-Signed By Bay Legends X-Raided & San Quinn
David Verde recorded his first track on an iPhone 4 while playing a beat off of YouTube on his TV and rapping over the instrumentals. Little did he know, it was the start of a grind that has only kept on going.
Ever since he was 4 years old, the Sacramento rapper was obsessed with music. He would make cover songs for popular tracks and imitate Usher on Confessions.
One of his dad’s friends noticed Verde’s passion for being behind the mic and brought him into his in-home studio where he worked with him on recording a few songs and gave him the courage to pursue songwriting and performing as a hobby leading to his epiphany moment several years later.
Verde’s first track was actually a diss he created overnight as a joke to some girls in his high school who were “talking shit” about him behind his back. It gained so much attention and attraction that within a week, it went viral with people asking to be featured on a remix. That moment was the start of David Verde, the Sacramento rapper with the bulletproof vest.
Since, he has preformed all over California, from his hometown Sacramento, to Oakland, Reno, Fresno, and Los Angeles. On his first booked show, Verde worked alongside Asian Doll and Bhad Bhabie and later in his career got to tour with the OMMIO star RJmrLA who admired his hustle and wanted to help put him on.
Over the past few years, Verde has been focused on honing his wordplay skills and improving the quality of his tracks in a steady yet strong trajectory. It wasn’t until a year ago that he released his official debut track “Price Tag” featuring two North Cal legends, X-Raided and San Quinn, produced by Madeinchinabeats.
Verde initial hip-hop influences were from his parents, who introduced him to Ludacris, Eminem, and Canibus. However nowadays, Verde has a fluctuating rotation and is currently bumping YNW B Slime, Juice WRLD, J.I. The Prince of NY, A Boogie wit da Hoodie, Lil Peep, and Bankroll Hayden.
The 21 year old rapper makes music relevant to his generation: witty, humorous, high energy, and lit. His sound is very west coast and slightly echos alternative indie vibes and an emo rap feel. It screams California and is heavily influenced by his life experiences as well as the artists he listens to.
One of Verde’s prominent track and recent releases is “Perkys Talkin” produced by Evince. It was an evident progression in his music and set a new tone for what is coming. The catchy hook and ad-lib incorporation depicts Verde’s west coast style, flaunting his smooth wordplay and melodies over a high energy beat.
The single is going to be followed with a “Perkys Talkin” remix with three additional features within the next month. Verde is also dropping a music video for the track.
Another track that has been catching traction has been “Dropping Comments.” It was heavily influenced by Blueface and was meant to be a short throw-away song. It was a follow-up to “Price Tag” intended to give fans a laugh during these heavy pandemic driven times. It was also produced by Evince who became a regular on Verde’s tracks.
The track was intended in a funny joking manner about a girl from Idaho. It was written after Verde’s first encounter with an obsessive fan who flew to see him within two weeks after he dropped a few comments on his Instagram. She kept blowing him up after coming over and inspired the lyrics he wrote when she was trying to FaceTime him while he was in the shower.
In the past, Verde was holding onto content until he inked a deal, but now that he is signed to a major distributor, EMPIRE, fans are about to get blessed with what he had been cooking. He has a project in the works, as well as various collaborations on the way, including several with the “Nah Fr” rapper DayDay HotNow and one with the youngest Baton Rouge rapper's Bad Azz Music Syndicate (Boosie’s Label) artist, Lil Blurry. He also recently dropped a new single, “Famous.”
Throughout his journey, Verde was very cautious about putting himself in a position to win, and to not be susceptible to being misled or misdirected within the industry. After being offered several contracts and deals during his climb, he became wary of the business side of music and started studying about how he could put himself in a position where it all makes sense.
The industry stride came with a lot of palpitations, it took some time for the young rapper to establish himself within the industry and set his feet on the ground. He was never a fan of adjusting his ways and moving differently to please the industry which at times set him back, but his determination and hard work prevailed over riding other people’s train. He wants to encourage other artists to stay true to themselves, and to not waver when it comes to their identity.
Moreover, after a successful show in Fresno CA., Verde has announced that he is going on a Halloween tour with some major headliners this October, and his next show will be in Sacramento CA. on October 30th.
