King RickyyC: From The Football Field To The Studio
When a door closes, a window opens; and for Ricky Carrigan, it was a window into the studio. After an unfortunate sports injury, he came back to his hometown Lynwood, CA from Rocky Mountain College in Montana and turned his back house into a studio.
Eager to create, he started recording on his MacBook using a USB mic his friend Ro had given him. King RickyyC found solace in creating music, “some people write in journals when their feelings are all over the place, I go create music,” he says.
& he didn’t just stop there. After learning the basics of creating music, he was set to learn how to screw and chop it as well.
“Engineers were charging too much,” he says. “I wasn’t getting what I was looking for. So, I decided to teach myself how to mix and master and operate Logic Pro X, self taught on YouTube University.”
6 years in the works and at 25 years-old, he now mixes and masters all of his tracks and is a professional audio engineer.
King RickyyC dropped his debut album “KALOPSIA” last September. The title refers to a state or delusion in which things appear more beautiful than they really are. The tracks shift in tempo symbolizing different parts of his healing process.
“It starts off slow, and gradually picks up in tempo symbolizing me getting out of that delusional state and back to my usual self,” King RickyyC says.
& the vibes don’t stop there, his singles are A MOOD and showcase his musical range: from slappers to bump to headphones gems, a must check for anyone who ‘s into that LA rap wave. (Personal favorites: Pull Up/Aura, Pulled Up & Pressure)
What’s Next
King RickyyC is in the process of working on his upcoming album which is set to drop next month. Word is, it’s going to be about a dozen tracks filled with high energy and much less sentimental than his debut, KALOPSIA. It will also be accompanied by a few music videos! *yay*
